The Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC; Miyazaki et al. 2018) is a wide-field optical imaging camera at the prime focus of the 8.2 m Subaru Telescope on Maunakea, Hawaii. With a 1.5 diameter FoV and a 0.168′′ pixel scale combined with the large collecting areaof Subaru, HSC is an efficient instrument for deep surveys covering large areas of the sky.

Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP)

The HSC-SSP is a multi-band (grizy plus 4 narrow-band filters) imaging survey with Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC). By combining data from the three layers (Wide: 1400 deg2, r~26; Deep: 27 deg2, r~27; Ultradeep: 3.5 deg2,r~28), the HSC SSP addresses some of the most pressing problems in modern cosmology and astrophysics with a particular focus on gravitational weak lensing, galaxy evolution, supernovae, and galactic structure. The survey is uniquely designed to enable various science cases, with particular attention to controlling systematic errors. The survey was awarded 330 nights over 5-6 years and it started in March 2014. For more details, refer to the proposal here.
